2018 Women Who Shape the State Honors Wind Creek Wetumpka Property Manager
ATMORE, Ala. (Oct. 2018) -- Wind Creek Hospitality (WCH) congratulates Kay Simmons for being selected as one of AL.com’s 2018 Women Who Shape the State. Honorees were selected in October after a competitive nomination process. Recipients will be formally recognized at the Fourth Annual Women Who Shape the State awards luncheon in Birmingham on November 2nd.
Simmons is a CPA and holds a Master of Accountancy from the University of West Florida. She has over 25 years of experience in finance, regulatory compliance and business operations. Simmons is a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians (PCI) and has been a part of the Wind Creek family for over ten years with time spent as Director of Regulatory Compliance and Assistant Property Manager of Wind Creek Atmore (WCA). She currently serves as the Property Manager of Wind Creek Wetumpka (WCW) and is the first woman to hold the title.
When asked about the honor, Simmons explained that seeing individuals and communities succeed is what drives her to make a difference.
“As a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, I take deep pride in knowing that the work I do creates opportunities for my fellow Tribal Members to have the government services, health care and education they need. More than that, I get to be a part of the many ways Wind Creek Wetumpka gives back to nonprofits and schools in the River Region and the state as a whole. There is an overwhelming sense of satisfaction from doing the right thing and being a good neighbor to those around you. I’m very lucky that I get paid to do work I’m passionate about and dedicate my life to creating opportunities for others. That is both a blessing and a sobering responsibility. It keeps me going every day.”

In addition to her contriburions with WCH, Simmons is also an avid supporter of her Tribe and her Wetumpka community. She served on the PCI investment board and has been an active participant in Main Street Wetumpka, helping to qualify the city for inclusion in Main Street America’s list of thriving, revitalized downtowns. Simmons is passionate about healthy living and leadership development. She creates opportunities to train her team members through leadership seminars and organized fitness challenges.
